About Me and My Home:

I have been in the childcare/daycare business for over nine years.  I have cared for children ages ranging from 2 weeks to 12 years.  Before I was a childcare provider I was a Licensed Practical Nurse in Oklahoma for 3 years.

This is my chosen profession.  I expect to be treated with respect and have all of my policies followed.  I, in turn, will treat you with the same respect.  I have been continuing my education about childcare by attending classes pertaining to different aspects of this profession.  I am currently the Vice President of the local childcare organization, known as Northwest C.A.R.E.; I have been a member for 4 years and attend a meeting monthly.  I am CPR and First Aid certified.  I am also certified to give medications.

SUPPLIES TO BRING FROM HOME: All children are required to have 2 changes of weather appropriate clothing(labeled) here at all times!  Children are to have the following here (when applicable):  Infant / Toddler Formula, Baby Food or Special Foods, Diapers and Wipes, Pull-ups, Sunscreen Lotion and Hats(for the hot summer sun), Slippers or “inside” shoes, Boots, Snow Pants, Hats, Mittens, Nap Time Friend(s).  Each child will have a cubbie for items brought from home.

Parents should write their children’s name on the inside of each article of clothing that they bring.

MEALS SERVED: Breakfast, lunch and pm snack.  Dinner can be provided with written request.  I receive money from a federally funded food program, Supplemental Childcare Services, Inc., for reimbursements.  All paperwork must be filled out in a timely manner and done properly before child begins childcare.

Breakfast:  7:30 a.m.

AM Snack:  10:00

Lunch:  12:00 p.m.

PM Snack:  4:00 p.m. (when the buses are finished dropping off children)

PAPERWORK REQUIRED: YEARLY each child needs:  a contract, updated medical forms, food program form, enrollment form, insurance from, and any medication forms required for administration.  If child’s forms expire, the child will not be allowed back into childcare until all forms are updated properly.

Parents are responsible to have forms updated immediately when there are changes to the information provided during the year.

DRESS CODE: Children are NOT permitted to wear the following:  open toe shoes, hard sole shoes (dress shoes, etc.), overalls when potty training or newly potty trained, pants that are too loose fitting and/or fall down, short dresses, half shirts, and clothing with inappropriate words or pictures on them.

POTTY TRAINING: I will actively participate in potty training after we discuss when and how potty training will begin.  I will only potty train when the parents are ready and prepared to do so.  I do use a reward system while training.  I use small candies (M&Ms, Smarties, Gummy snacks, etc.) & stickers.

NAP TIME: All children have 2 hours each afternoon to nap or have quiet time.  I supply a cot or porta-crib, sheets, pillows, blankets & stuffed animal.  Children can nap in the mornings as well.  For older children that do not nap, they will be allowed to watch an age appropriate movie or television shows, read books, color, do a quiet activity or resting to give themselves some down time as well.

OUTDOOR PLAY: Weather permitting; we get outside each morning and afternoon for at least half an hour each time.  Outdoors the children run, jump, balance, climb, swing, slide and get a lot of physical activity. They have balls of all sizes, hula hoops, jump ropes, frisbees, swings, climbers, cars, play houses, and a sandbox. Our play area is filled with woodchips. Children also run and play in our large back yard.   During the seasons, children will be involved in gardening, growing their own vegetables and flowers.   During the summer the children will have lots of water activities to enjoy. I encourage children to play with one another and continue to work cooperatively, though they can play on their own too.

WEATHER APPROPRIATE CLOTHING IS A MUST!!!!

The only times I do not go outdoors is when there is thunder and lightning, heavy rain or it is too cold.

INDOOR ACTIVITIES:  Daily activities include, but are not limited to, preschool crafts, reading, singing, stretching, exercising, movement activities both large and small motor, and free play.  I have the children do a sit down activity and follow it with some free play or large motor movement activity.  This prevents structured time from feeling like punishment.  We try to make a craft or work on some form of art each day.  Children will paint, color with different mediums, stamp, glue, cut, tape, etc.    Children are at a stage where learning is done through play and interacting with others.

Open Door Policy: It is my wish that we develop a successful relationship that is beneficial to your child.  Please bring any questions or concerns about your child's care to my attention and I will do my best to address them and work with you towards a solution.  In addition, I uphold an “Open Door” policy.   As a parent, you have the right to complete access to your child and their daycare facility.  You are welcome to visit my home at any time during Daycare hours, announced or unannounced.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF ROUTINES:  If parent will be more than 20 minutes late dropping off child, a phone call is required.  If Provider does not receive a call, Provider will assume your child is not coming and cannot guarantee your child’s slot will be here should you arrive late.  Slots can be given to drop in children after your child is 20 minutes late and there is no call.  Payment for the day is expected as usual.  If parents are going to be late at pick-up, call by 5:00 pm and you will have until 5:30 before late fees begin.  If this begins to happen regularly (weekly or monthly) additional, permanent fees will be added to your weekly tuition.  To be discussed by myself and parents involved.  If you do not call by 5:00pm or at all, late fees begin at 5:31 pm at the rate of $10 for each 15 minute interval.  Again if you are routinely late, a permanent tuition increase will be implemented.

CHILD ABUSE: I am mandated by law to report any suspected child abuse with 12 hours.  Please be advised that if I suspect physical, sexual, or verbal abuse, I will report it to the authorities.  I am also mandated to provide you will the number to call if you have any reason to suspect abuse.  That number is: Child Abuse Information Hotline, 800-842-2288.

I cannot refuse to allow a child to be released to a parent who appears to have been drinking or on drugs.  However, your child’s safety is very important to me, and I will report to the authorities immediately if such an event occurs.

If abuse or neglect is observed, I will not hesitate to call the Connecticut Division of Children and Families.  State Law requires this and I fully comply with the intent of the law.

RELEASE OF CHILDREN:  Your child will not be released to anyone except those indicated in the enrollment form.  If there is an exception in the case of an emergency, you must call and speak directly with the daycare provider.  Identification will be required.

HEALTH POLICIES, MEDICATIONS, AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES:  To protect the health of the other children, your child will not be allowed to attend if s/he is ill or begins to exhibit symptoms of illness.  If a child is ill, the child will be separated from the rest of the children and the parents will be notified immediately and parents are expected to pick up their child within 1 hour of being notified.  If your child is running a fever (101.0 degrees or greater), you must keep the child home until the fever has dissipated for at least 24 hours (without medication).  This applies to the children with contagious illness such as diarrhea, pink eye, mumps, pinworms, strep, rashes, etc.  Some rashes are contagious and should be checked by your doctor.

If your child is hurt or becomes ill enough to require medical attention, I will phone 911 first.  I will then make calls beginning with a parent.  If they cannot be reached I will call the emergency contacts listed on the child’s enrollment form.  The hospital children will go to is Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT, unless otherwise notified in writing by the parents.  I will have a back-up provider come to my home within one hour of receiving the phone call.  The back-up person is not to be used for childcare in my home.

PROVIDER is not responsible for any medical bills that arise during child’s attendance at childcare or at any other time will provider be responsible for any medical bills incurred.  Indoor and outdoor toys, equipment and supplies will be safe for all children.  Parents will be responsible for any damage beyond normal everyday wear and tear to property or equipment (broken window, tables, lamps, etc.) Children will never be left unsupervised nor will they be abused or neglected.  However, accidents do happen.  Parents will be responsible for any medical expenses incurred should an accident requiring emergency treatment occur.

DISCIPLINE:  Behavior problems will be handled with firm guidance with the parent’s cooperation.  The usual form of discipline is redirection.  The child will be redirected from inappropriate behavior to something that is appropriate or another activity.  If your child continues to act inappropriately, then time-out will be the next step of discipline.  If a child exhibits behavior that is disruptive or jeopardizes his/her welfare, or that of the other children in the program, then we can work together to resolve the situation.  If undesirable behavior continues, the daycare reserves the right to terminate services to your child.  Under these conditions, you will be given a two-week notice to make alternate arrangements. Termination is effective immediately and at any time, if the child is causing physical, emotional, or mental harm to anyone in Provider’s home or to me, the provider.

Fire Drills: The State of Connecticut requires a planned fire escape and practice fire drills several times a year.  We will talk about fire safety, what to do, where to meet, and practice the stop, drop, and roll technique.  Please discuss this with your child to assure them that the practices are not meant to scare them, but to prepare them in case of an emergency.
